"English Class" Writing
With English, the writer's audience is the teacher. Therefore, the purpose of an English essay is to impress the teacher. English writing is longer, more complex, and uses multi-syllable words. The organization of an English essay is usually chronological and includes an introduction (with a thesis statement), three body paragraphs (at least), and a conclusion.

Journalistic Writing
With Journalism, the writer's audience is the entire school or community. Therefore, the purpose of Journalistic writing is to inform, entertain, or persuade the audience. It has short, concise sentences and has simple, understandable words. It also uses short paragraphs, usually one or two sentences. The first paragraph is the lead, which addresses the who, what, where, when and how (5 W's & H). A summary lead is always one sentence and additional paragraphs are short and contain less information.
