-
Personal Essay
-
This wasn't a full essay. It was more like completing an outline about something personal that happened to them while also learning basic writing skills.
-
-
Military Branch Project
-
Students participated in a local writing contest within Fairview Park City Schools
-
Students had to write about a branch on how God and our country contributed to the different military branches (students would pick one branch to focus on)
-
I gave students some background knowledge on the military branches (Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard) through a PowerPoint I created
-
Then, I assigned a group project where the students had to pick a branch to research, make a poster on, and present to the class
-
After writing the short essay, I hand-selected what I thought were the best ones and submitted them
-
One of my students actually won out of all the schools in Fairview that participated! :)
-
-
-
Fractured FairyTale Essay
-
Students had to pick a fairytale, read it, then pick a side character, and give them their own story
-
For example, if a student chose Cinderella, then they could choose to write a story about the Fairy Godmother, or Prince Charming, or one of the mice, etc.
-
It wasn't a retelling of the original story but more so giving another character their own story while also still incorporating parts of the original story
-
This is my favorite assignment I've ever done! :)

-
Students had to pick a pair of shoes and write a story from the shoe's perspective
-
They had to pick the right or the left shoe for the POV
-
Incorporate literary elements (specifically simile, imagery, and personification)
-
Had to be a personal story, something that happened to them in the pair of shoes they chose to write about
-
For example, a lot of the boys chose their basketball shoes and described their basketball game from the perspective of their shoes
-
-
