Gabby's Electronic Portfolio
GABBY'S ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO
Technology in the Classroom
Hello there, my name is Gabby and welcome to my electronic portfolio for EDCI 232, Intro to the Principles of Instructional Technology. I am taking this class as a sophomore at Ashland University for my major, which is Integrated Language Arts Education for grades 7-12. Included in this portfolio are the projects we have completed throughout this class.

Wiki
My first assignment for this course was to create a Wiki Page. Wiki is an informational page that allows anyone to edit it. I was asked to pick out two technologies that could be used in the classroom and to provide a specific description on each and list the pros and cons. I chose PowerPoint and iPad's since they are both extremely popular inside and outside of the classroom.

Blog
The next project I was assigned was to create a blog where I reflected on the class. Blogs are a great use in the classroom because it allows students to access information and assignments outside of the classroom. Also, blogs are a great way for teacher's as well as students to introduce themselves.

Interactive Poster
An interactive poster is a great tool for visual learners. It allows you to briefly touch base on a lesson, introduce new information, review information, etc. The poster helps intrigue students in the classroom and they can access it outside of the classroom as well. For my poster, I created a way for students to learn the basics of the book "The Outsiders" for before they started reading.

Graphic Organizer
A graphic organizer is another great tool for visual learners. It can be used to introduce a lesson or even a summary of a book the class just read. For my graphic organizer, I provided a summary of the book "The Outsiders" and an overview of the main characters and how they are connected. This was one of my favorites to make because it was a fun and easy way to summarize things and I can definitely see myself using this as a teacher.

Below I have attached a picture of my graphic organizer on "The Outsiders."

Spreadsheet
Spreadsheets is a lot like Excel. It allows you to organize things using graphs, charts, grades, assignments, names, etc. For this assignments, I had to create three different spreadsheets with students names, assignments, grades, and graphs. To me, this was the most important assignment because I know that I will definitely be using it in the future. It was a great way to organize everything and it was easy to learn how to do!

Database
Along with the Spreadsheet, I had to create a Database. A Database is just a questionnaire that you create to get student input on. You could also use it to get to know your students. It is simple to make and it gives you results as soon as possible. It helps teachers stay organized and learn what they should and should not continue doing in their classroom. For this assignment, I created a get to know your students questionnaire and had some of my family and friends fill it out for me so I could see how the results worked. Overall, it was easy and fun way to get information.

HyperMedia
HyperMedia Powerpoints are not your ordinary Powerpoints. They consist of multiple hyperlinks that either direct you to a website or a specific slide. For this assignment, I had to create a fun and engaging Powerpoint for students. What I decided to do was make one big game of Jeopardy that reviews the required curriculum for a 7th grade language arts class. A Jeopardy review creates a competition for the classroom, and competition is what students love the most. This assignment was definitely time consuming but it was worth it because I have already used it in a 7th grade class and they loved it.

Prezi
Prezi is a more interactive presentation tool. It is often compared to Powerpoint which is actually what this assignment was about. We had to create a presentation listing the pros and cons of three different online presentation tools. The three options were Prezi, VoiceThread, and SlideShare. After the pros and cons, we had to compare each to Powerpoint. This was very time consuming because it involved research but in the end, it was worth it because it exposed you to the many different ways of presenting certain things in the classroom.

Desktop Movie
IMOVIE
Desktop Movies are an extremely fun way to captivate students to learn something new. Using iMovie, I created a video that discusses the five nonfiction text structures. I chose to make everything minion themed because it would make students actually want to pay attention. In the video, I provided the definitions, pictures, and video clips displaying each text structure individually. For me, this was the most fun to make because it was entertaining and I know students will love it.
WebQuest
WebQuest is an online website that you create for students. It is a resource designed for students to search the web. Therefore, it is great for teaching students how to properly research certain materials. For this assignment, I had to create an online assignment that students could access from anywhere. I chose to have students research the 1960's based off the book "The Outsiders." On the website, I provided an introduction, the task, the process, outside resources, and the rubric for the project I created. Although it was time consuming, it is something that is used all the time in a classroom. It exposes students to a lot of different things and it makes things easier on the teacher.

Conclusion
My very last assignment for EDCI 232 was to create this Electronic Portfolio. It is a way for me to reflect on how much I have accomplished and learned from this course throughout the semester. Overall, this class introduced me to many amazing technologies that I could use in my future classroom. All of the following assignments will allow me to be more creative and interactive with my future students and I would highly recommend taking this class if you are looking to go into the education field.
